Bodie Island Lighthouse - Nags Head , North Carolina
Bodie Island Lighthouse - Nags Head , North Carolina
The current Bodie Island Lighthouse was built in 1872, and features a horizontal black and white stripe design. The original structure was built in 1847, but was unstable and had to be re-built in 1859. In 1861 the lighthouse was intentionally destroyed during the Civil War, and the shores of Nags Head sat un-lit until construction started again in 1871, and finished in 1872. The former Keepers’ home is now used as a Ranger Office and Visitor Center, and the Lighthouse is still in operation today.
This is a reproduction art print of an original charcoal drawing.
