Cape Hatteras Lighthouse - Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse - Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

from $30.00

The current Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was built in 1870, to replace a shorter lighthouse built in 1803 and demolished in 1871. The new Lighthouse was 60 feet taller and more visible to passing ships. The Lighthouse received its famous black and white stripe pattern in 1873 to distinguish it from other lighthouses and increase visibility. In 1999 the Lighthouse was moved 2,900 feet inland, a few inches at a time, after years of beach erosion to preserve the structure. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest brick Lighthouse in the United States.

This is a reproduction art print of an original charcoal drawing.
